New Matsons Avenue units optimised for people with disabilities

CMM is increasing the number of housing units at its Papanui site. An old rest home wing that was closed after the new WesleyCare was built has been converted to four apartments and is now tenanted by older people who were on the CMM waitlist for Wesley Village accommodation. Their rental is typically lower than that charged by the market.

Construction of units on the Matsons Avenue side of the property is underway and should be completed by September. The four new one-bedroom accessible units will be tenanted by older people or people with disabilities, who are on the Government’s social housing register. Tenants will pay income-related rent, making the level of rent affordable.

According to the Government, 1524 Christchurch households in the December 2020 quarter urgently needed housing, up 67 percent on the same time a year earlier.
