Imagination Station comes to New Brighton!

Published on 9th of June, 2017

Thanks to Development Christchurch and Wellbeing New Brighton, Imagination Station will be opening a 10 week pop-up at Carnaby Mall, New Brighton opening Friday 16th June.

Imagination Station is a purpose-driven social enterprise, and is Christchurch's most popular creative play and education centre for people of all ages – using LEGO and DUPLO as an engaging medium for learning, play and creativity. What's more, Imagination Station's creative play is accessible to everyone – with an 'entry by Koha or donation' model.

Wellbeing New Brighton, a community development initiative coordinated by the Christchurch Methodist Mission and funded by the Todd and Tindall Foundations, first approached Imagination Station in September last year about the possibility of a pop-up at New Brighton. This was after community interviews showed that Imagination Station could provide a fun and accessible space for the local families to congregate - a great opportunity for New Brighton and surrounding communities.

The facility will host a range of activities including creative play, afterschool classes, birthday parties and school groups – bookings can be made online. The pop-up Imagination Station will be open to the public from 9:30am to 5:30pm, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday during term time, plus every day during the July school holidays.

Imagination Station has been open in Christchurch's central city since January 2015 and has had made a significant contribution to city regeneration - bringing over 115,000 visitors through the CBD since opening. The team now plan to replicate the successful model of 'regeneration through creative play' on a smaller scale in New Brighton over the course of the 10 week winter activation at Carnaby Mall.
