'Keeping the spirit going'

Aratupu Preschool and Nursery has generously received donations of food and money from the launch of the book May Your Shadow Never Grow Less written by Helen Thomas.

Helen launched her book at the Christchurch Council Chambers on the afternoon of Sunday 3rd April and invited people who attended to bring an item of food for the Christchurch Methodist Mission (CMM). She is pictured here with CMM Executive Director Jill Hawkey dropping off the donated food.

May Your Shadow Never Grow Less is a book about the life and times of Henry and Jane Holland in Canterbury from 1863 - 1945. Henry and Jane led busy and successful lives; Henry was mayor of Christchurch for seven years before and during WW1 and a member of parliament from 1925 until 1935. The couple were heavily involved in the Methodist Church in Canterbury and Helen wanted to 'keep the (Methodist) spirit going' by having a connection to the Methodist Mission through the donations and having Rev Dr Barbara Peddie speak at the launch of the book.
